Beta Testing Details

Roam3 is planning to offer warning devices for those without Internet connections, but for now our system only runs on devices with Internet connections. If you have any of the following, and are interested in beta testing while the aftershocks continue, please do get in touch.

Sensor Location Information

Thank you for your interest in providing us with a location for an earthquake sensor.

We are interested in locations that meet the following requirements:

are near where aftershocks are happening
are away from other sources of ground vibration such as roads and heavy machinery
are on a location where a broadband Internet connection and Wi-Fi access are available

Expression of Support

Had we continued to deploy earthquake sensors following the 2010 Darfield Earthquake, we would probably not have put any sensors so close to the city as this year's 6.3-magnitude earthquake, and so would not have been able to provide adequate warning. However, we are keen to extend our sensor network to provide an extensive earthquake warning system for the country. In particular, certain known faults such as the Alpine Fault are expected to rupture and produce potentially catastrophic earthquakes within the next few decades. If we surrounded such known faults with our sensors and provided the public with earthquake warning software and devices, we could potentially save many lives. We would like to hear from anyone who is supportive of this idea.
